Age Care
Old Age Care:
Experience, Maturity to face Life’s challenges, unconditional love, Respect and Care are the emotions synonymous to Senior Citizens .Undoubtedly Senior citizens are the Strongest Pillar of our Value system. They have made contributions towards society’s wellbeing and it is time to rekindle their hopes and dreams, rebuild their confidence and evoke a positive way of life in them. We, at Nilachal Seva Pratisthan make a sincere effort to wipe out the grievances from the faces of these older ones and make them a part of our own family. We take care of the Senior Citizen by providing them with basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter. They are the ones who are unable to live with their family or are destitute. For this, we bring them to the Old Aged Home where we provide them with proper comfort and make them feel as home. At the old aged home we craft a family like atmosphere among the occupants and also provide them with proper medical facilities and take proper care for those who are suffering from some aliments. We cheer them up by keeping them very close to nature and surrounded with young kids. A home for those old people who have no one to look after them or those who have been thrown out of their homes by their children; the place is of course like home where the inmates get all the facilities for a routine living, like food, clothing, and shelter. All these necessities are well looked after but, the much-needed love, and care of loved ones is of course sadly missing; for, how can outsiders provide solace? This is the real concern which team-NSP understands well and put effort to subside the same. In these homes, it is very interesting and even touching to talk to people whether they are men or women.NSP has been addressing the issue through its various programs for the geriatric population. In the years gone by, NSP is running various centers for the elderly under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi. The centre is benefiting 600 destitute elderly people regularly by providing them all residential care like food, shelter, clothing, medical check-up, counseling, legal support, vocational education, moral and physical education , recreation, outing, helpline services, therapy, community sensitization etc. Above all, love and compassion from the team NSP is the final healing touch.
Home(s) for the Aged:
In the current era where each and every person is very busy with their professional career and other commitments, we tend to spend very less time at home. Our old parents or grandparents end up staying alone in their homes either with children or sometimes alone by themselves. Due to age, senior citizens and old people get medical emergencies and it is vital for someone to be around them always. However, due to various factors, the decedents are unable to be with them round the clock to serve them during emergencies. The old and senior citizens, who have provided a great service to the society, feel neglected and unwanted at this stage of life. The declining physical strength and other geriatric ailments add to their problems. The Process of social change i.e. modernization, urbanization and technological changes have modified the value system and shifted the socio-economic priorities which have thrown the life on fast tracks and often left with no time for our senior citizens.

The Nilachal Seva Pratisthan(NSP) is one such organization with a commitment to serve its senior/old aged citizens. NSP has been running Old Age Home inside its soulful campus since 1991 and Old Age Home-II is located at Puri Town. The Older are provided moral, emotional and mental support, love, care, free food, clothing and shelter here. They are also provided free medical facility including free distribution of medicines and regular health checks up. In the unit at our Headquarters, we have endeavored to make a emotional match-making arrangement by tagging a school child of our own campus or a member child from our orphanage with each elderly destitute of the old age home so that they can be complementary to each other. This experiment has proven to be highly productive in nurturing the mental health of both the counterpart. Apart from this, the aged are being involved in vocational activities which includes wick rolling, rope making, gardening, floriculture, coir stick broom making etc in order to make them physically fit. They are also given opportunity to watch TV, playing cards, Passa Palli, Yoga and singing spiritual songs. During festival seasons they are taken on excursion to the famous places like Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri, Sun temple in Konark, Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar and such other places. NSP supported old age homes are safe havens where older persons can live their lives with dignity and interact with their peers. NSP has been working towards helping transform old age homes into composite shelters which go beyond providing simply a roof and meeting the basic needs of the elderly.
Respite Care Home/Continuous Care Home:
Caring for someone can be very rewarding, and it can also be demanding and tiring work — both physically and emotionally. It's important for us to take time off to give themselves support. This can happen through respite care. Respite care also known as 'short-term care' is a form of support to the needs. Respite care may be given informally by friends, family or neighbours, or by formal respite services. In this perspective Nilachal Seva Pratishtan(NSP) plays a vital role here. NSP provides respite services to older person by establishing continuous care home by different way of keeping older people in the centre with their friends and community people as long as possible. In our country older persons especially from the poor or middle class families want to pass sometimes outside the family from day to day hustle and bustle to get mental pleasure. Considering these social needs, NSP is running one such project with 25 beneficiaries at its own campus as Dayavihar. The mission of the NSP is to improve the health status of individuals who are homeless by supporting programs that provide medical respite and related services.
Day Care Center For Older Ages:
With life expectancy rising, more and more of us find that they need assistance as their age. Adult day care centers are designed specialized for older adults who can no longer manage independently, or who are isolated and lonely. Day care for Older Ages is a planned program of activities designed to promote well-being though social and health-related services. Older persons with dementia may not be able to think well enough to do normal activities. Their personalities invariably changes. They lose their ability to solve problems or control over their emotions. Memory loss is a common symptom of dementia. Physiotherapy Clinic:
Every individual hopes to live an independent life with dignity and carry out daily activities of their life, unassisted. However, the natural process of ageing is accompanied by host of degenerative physical problems such as reduced muscle power and tone, reduced range of motion and bone density. Keeping it in this mind, NSP India provides physiocare that is aimed at enabling and supporting the elderly to maintain their fitness and mobility level, enhance their independence in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as well as improve their self-confidence and self-esteem. The services rendered treat elderly persons with musculoskeletal diseases such as back pain, arthritis and even paralysis and other age related mobility challenges. Appropriate physiotherapy service to the older persons can help to avoid hospitalization, reduce the length of institutional stay, prevent complications and lessen the amount of care required. Therapeutic service can improve the individual's level of functioning of older person. In view of that NSP runs a Physiotherapy Clinic for the older persons at the HQs campus of the organization at-Dayavihar (Kanas). Appropriate interventions enable the older adult to maintain or regain physical, physiological and social well being. Quality of life for older persons may be enhanced by appropriate therapeutic interventions, health care and social support systems.
