Geographical Coverage

The central project campus of NSP with its administrative office is located in the remote Dayavihar village in Kanas block of Puri district in Odisha. Presently NSP is working in five districts such as Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh and Mayurbhanj in the state of Odisha covering 2076 villages with direct implementation of various projects. As per the climate, soil, topography, geohydrology and other resources the geographical profile of NSP’s operational area is divided into two sub-regions viz. the coastal area of Bay of Bengal and the Eastern Ghat range. The coastal sub- region is mainly the deltaic alluvial plain in nature and flood prone while the hilly extension of Eastern Ghat range is less fertile with bushy terrain slope on the plateaus and rolling laterite uplands and generally drought prone in nature. Average temperature in our operational area varies between 46°C (maximum in the summer) and 8°C.(minimum in the winter) . Rain sets here in the month of June/July while agriculture is dependant on the monsoon. The main source of livelihood is agriculture while animal husbandry, fishing, small scale industries, handicrafts and allied trade are also the modes of livelihood of the community people. The percentage of scheduled tribes and scheduled castes population all over Odisha is high (nearly 40%).The literacy rate in the state is low (nearly 57%). Percentage of BPL population is around 46 %.Religion wise most of the population are Hindu and are guided by the custom and rituals of that religion.
